What is the meaning of...

Justice.

A word I have been struggling with for a long time. How can you really give something, or someone, justice? The dictionary defines justice as: 1. To act or treat fairly. 2. To appreciate properly. 3.To acquit in accordance with one's abilities or potentialities.
So what does this mean? How does one appreciate properly?? How are we supposed to explain a person or thing and do it justice to another? I struggle with this thought everyday. One of my biggest fears is that I will not be able to properly explain how I feel. How do I learn to give these truths justice?

What about the word "fairly." Fairly according to who? I'm sure a lot of different people from a lot of different places will disagree on the meaning of the word fair. If then the word fair is ambiguous, how do properly show justice? Will giving someone a life without parole properly show justice for their crime? Is justice served because we now feel like the punishment is fitting for the crime? But why does justice make us feel better? Just because a punishment was issued does that take back the action that already has en-slewed. In general, the human race feels at peace when a criminal is brought to justice. But justice has such a wide range of meanings and interpretations that I don't see how we can all agree on what justice truly is.

Am I saying let all the criminals run free? No. Am I saying that no one should be punished for their crimes? No. I am saying that maybe this system isn't truly justice. Maybe we should redefine justice, or actually just define it clearly.

I think many people throw words around without actually thinking about what they actually mean. Which defies the whole concept of "doing someone justice." How am I supposed to explain the essence of their character properly? Rather, how do I explain them in truth so others can see what I see? This concept haunts me- whether or not people will truly understand what I mean. I guess I just want to portray people in the best possible way- even when others don't see it or don't understand it. And to not give them that shred of hope is robbing them of "justice." I don't think I'll ever be able to solve this puzzle- or really understand it...just thinking....
