Learning...

Where does the concept of intelligence come into play? Although I might not be a mathematician, and I honestly cannot remember which bone is placed where in my body does that diminish my intelligence? To be a "smart" person, what do you need to know?

Although many of us spend our days in college, memorizing facts, sacrificing experiences to study...does this really help us grow? I don't know how to fix my car when the check engine light comes on- the person who does must be "smarter" than I am right? Or is intelligence just a lost concept on the weak minded?

I definitely believe school does not turn you into the "smart" person everyone wants you to be. Without the willingness and effort to learn, intelligence can only take you so far. Therefore, do we see where our system is flawed? How are we supposed to cater to everyone's time line of when they want to learn? This, however, does not discredit their intelligence. Just because you didn't go to college, didn't graduate high school, or failed that geography quiz does not make you "stupid." There is so much to learn from, so many people know so many different things. Why then, is intelligence standardized?

Yes, I understand the "worldly perspective" and a "full-circle view" that college aims to give you. But what are we really doing? Are we stopping people from exploring because we want them to learn about the different phases of the rock cycle? What if we were meant to explore mediums not taught in college- ideas not yet recognized...yet still equally intelligent...

What does sitting at a desk all day bring you? Definitely NOT intelligence. Some people go through their entire life sitting at a desk, never truly sharing their unique approach to life. A person can be quite "successful" (at least in America's standards) by sitting at a desk 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I don't know ANYONE who's desire is to sit at a desk for 40 hours a week- yet we go to school to gain "intelligence" and this is what becomes of us.
Maybe I'm wasting my breath, or key strokes rather. Don't we learn the most from experience? In my mind, "intelligence" is based mostly on experience. Go somewhere. Experience it. Teach me from what you KNOW.

Have the courage to experience things others might not be supportive of. Try something solely because someone told you they didn't think it was possible. I'm trying to explore, trying to create, trying to truly LIVE.
Let's learn from each other and experience. Share your thoughts, I want to know what you think.
